Scarlett Johansson in Angeleno

Johansson's performance as Grace in The Horse Whisperer (1998) earned her a Hollywood Reporter Young Star award. And previously her Manny & Lo (1996) role received a nod by the Independent Spirit Awards. Scarlett has an older brother and sister and a twin brother. She divides her time between New York with her dad, and Los Angeles with her mother. Her acting career was launched in the off-Broadway production of 'Sophistry' with Ethan Hawke.


First role (uncredited) was in a skit during the first year of "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" (1993) at age 8. She relived this moment during an interview with Conan on July 12, 2005, twelve years later.

Her father Karsten Johansson, a NY architect, and mother Melanie Johansson, her manager, now divorced, separated when she was 13.

Johansson has invited over Josh Hartnett to her private apartment to stay with her. She wanted to see what was it like to live with him before settling down with him.



In July 2005, Scarlett starred with Ewan McGregor in the Michael Bay-directed, The Island. It was her debut as the female lead in a mainstream action film. When the movie opened to weak reviews and an even weaker box office, the producers of the film accused Johansson of failing to connect or attract a mainstream audience.



Johansson has revealed that she used to have a crush on actor David Hasselhoff. They both worked in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. "I so fancied him when I was young, that to see my name on the credits next to his makes me go all girly. He was a hunk back in those days." [3]
